Agnes Mathilde Larson (March 15, 1892-January 24, 1967) was born in Preston, Minnesota, and attended St. Olaf College, earning her BA degree in English in 1916. From there, she went on to earn both her MA, from Columbia University in 1922, and her Ph.D, from Radcliffe College in 1938. For a time, Larson taught high school in Walcott, North Dakota and later Minnesota. She also taught at Mankato State Teachers College before becoming a history professor at St. Olaf College. She was chair of the History Department from 1942-1960.

Larson was a historian who had four nonfiction books published. She studied Minnesota’s white pine industry with historian Frederick Merk, which led to her book History of the White Pine Industry in Minnesota. Her other works include On the Trail of the Woodsman in Minnesota, When Logs and Lumber Ruled Stillwater, and John A. Johnson: An Uncommon American. Larson was primarily interested in studying and writing about Minnesotan history.
