David Treuer

David Treuer (1970-) is a novelist and non-fiction writer who is a Professor of Literature at the University of Southern California. David Treuer was born in Washington D.C., but the Treuer family returned to Minnesota where David and his brothers were raised. Treuer received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan in 1999 and has taught at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and Scripps College in Claremont, California. He received the Minnesota Book Award in 1996 and has been offered many fellowships.

David Treuer has had numerous essays and stories published in Esquire Magazine, The Washington Post, and The New York Times, among other publications. With his brother, Anton, David Treuer is working on a project to preserve the Ojibwe language by using grammar. He has written both fiction and non-fiction, and some of his books include Little, The Hiawatha, The Translation of Dr. Apelles: A Love Story, and Rez Life: An Indian’s Journey Through Reservation Life.
