Ellen Hart (August, 1949-) has authored over thirty crime novels, most notably within her two series: The Jane Lawless Mystery Series and The Sophie Greenway Mystery Series. She has won numerous awards for her novels, including the Minnesota Book Award for Best Popular Fiction (three times), Lambda Literary Award for Best Lesbian Mystery (six times), Golden Crown Literary Award in many categories (three times), and many more. She teaches a class on writing modern mystery at the Loft Literary Center and continues to write novels including The Merchant of Venus, Hallowed Murder, and The Iron Girl. Hart and her wife, Kathleen, live in Eden Prairie.

Jane Lawless, the heroine of Ellen Hart’s Jane Lawless series, is a restaurateur and amateur sleuth living in Minneapolis. She and her best friend Cordelia solve crimes usually involving members of artistic and theatrical circles. Hart’s other series features Sophie Greenway, a food critic, who is pulled into mystery and scandal by old connections.
