Jack Weatherford

Jack Weatherford (?) was born in South Carolina where he attended the University of South Carolina for a BA in political science and an MA in sociology. He earned his Ph.D in anthropology from the University of California, San Diego. Weatherford taught anthropology at Macalester College in Minnesota for many years before retirement. Weatherford has studied Native Americans and the history and impact of Mongol tribes. Weatherford splits his time between South Carolina and Mongolia, and he runs the Jack Weatherford Foundation.

Some of Weatherford’s first books were about Native Americans and their interactions with the world. Indian Givers: How the Indians of the Americas Transformed the World and Native Roots: How the Indians Enriched America won Minnesota Book Awards in 1989 and 1992 for their anthropological additions to scholarship. More recently, Weatherford has written several books on Mongolia, which have also received acclaim. He was awarded the Order of the Polar Star, Mongolia’s highest national honor. He has also appeared on many TV talk shows, such as The Today Show, talking about his work.
