Larry Millett

Larry Millett (1947-) grew up in Minnesota. He earned his BA in English from St. John’s University in 1969 and his MA in English Literature from the University of Chicago in 1970. He started working for the St. Paul Pioneer Press in 1972 as a general assignment reporter. He has since then worked as an education reporter, courts reporter, feature writer, architecture critic, and writing coach. After he studied on a fellowship with the University of Michigan, he became the St. Paul Pioneer Press’s first architecture critic. Millett and his wife live St. Paul’s historic Seventh Street neighborhood.

Millett has written over twenty books, including eight books that feature Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. In these books, Holmes and Watson travel to Minnesota and work with saloonkeeper Shadwell Rafferty to solve crimes around the city. Millett has also written several books on Minnesota architecture and several AIA guides for the Twin Cities. A few of his works include Lost Twin Cities, Sherlock Holmes and the Ice Palace Murders, and AIA Guide to the Twin Cities.
