Leif Enger (1961-) wanted to write fiction since he was a teenager. Growing up in small town Osakis, Minnesota, Enger witnesses the hardships that people in small towns faced and later used as inspiration for his writing. Enger worked for Minnesota Public Radio as a reporter and producer for many years but still dreamed of writing and publishing fiction. In 2001, his first book was published, and he has been writing ever since.
Enger’s first book, Peace Like a River, received acclaim in literary circles. It won an ALA Alex Award and an Independent Publisher Book Award. Enger has since published two more novels. All three of his books have been published with Grove Atlantic, and independent literary publisher. In addition to the three novels that Enger has written by himself, he and his brother, Lin, published a mystery series during the 1990s under the pseudonym L. L. Enger.
