Leschak

Peter Leschak

Peter Leschak (May 11, 1951-) has always had a connection with the wilderness, growing up in Chisholm, MN and later settling near Side Lake with his wife. Leschak is a writer and a firefighter. He has fought fires in both municipal and rural settings for over thirty years and many of his books are based on his experiences. He has worked to save many homes and trees from forest fires.

Leschak is the author of several acclaimed works of nonfiction, including Letters from Side Lake: A Chronicle of Life in the North Woods, Ghosts of the Fireground, and The Bear Guardian: Northwoods Tales and Meditations, which won a Minnesota Book Award in 1991. Leschak has also written for numerous periodicals, including Harper’s, The New York Times Magazine, The New York Times Book Review, and Outdoor.
